  • Role Description

    The Health Information Manager (HIM) will be responsible for managing and securing patients records. The HIM is also responsible for the coding and abstracting of medical records diagnoses and procedures working from the appropriate documentation in the electronic medical record. 

     

    Additional Responsibilities:

    • Ensure accurate, complete and organized health records are delivered to providers in a timely manner
    • Respond to request for health information (both patients and medical personnel) and ensure information is released in accordance with regulatory requirements (e.g., HIPAA, Confidentiality)
    • Provide appropriate labeling to all incoming documents in our electronic health record and forward to appropriate party in a timely manner
    • Ensure accurate and timely flow sheet entry of appropriate documents
    • Provide assigned training to new staff to assist their orientation to IT support/
    • health records management, if needed
    • Foster an atmosphere of continuous improvement in order to maximize efficiency and team effectiveness
    • ICD-10 Coding for billing. Physician Credentialing.
    • Print medical records for all insurance, legal and personal requests. 
    • Auditing for QA process.
    • Supervision of Clinical Concierge position.
    • Maintenance of staff login information to all systems.
    • Super user for clinical systems including training physicians on the mobile EMR system
    • Orders supplies and maintains appropriate budget controls.
    • Must be able to troubleshoot and secure any supplies and or OTC that are not in inventory for new orders
    • May coordinator with nursing staff to obtain alternative supplies if needed
    • Maintain supply rooms with appropriate inventory
    • Review all admission and discharges for completion in EMR
    • Track and monitor all medical equipment and contact vendors once equipment is no longer in use

    What we’re looking for

    • Bachelor’s degree preferred
    • At least 1-2 years’ experience coding in an HIM department preferably in post-acute care setting
      Demonstrate knowledge of anatomy
    • Demonstrate knowledge of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, disease process, RUG reimbursement methodology, and conventions, rules, guidelines for current coding classification (ICD-10-CM, CPT and HCPCS)
    • Demonstrate understanding of the clinical content of a health record
    • Requires the knowledge of the business use of computer hardware and software including Microsoft Office:  Outlook, Word, Excel
    • Previous experience in central supply

    The following credential(s) are highly preferred:

    • One (1) year coding experience preferred. One (1) year experience as a supervisor or in management highly preferred.
    • Certified Coding Associate (CCA)
    • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
    • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) in good standing 
    • Will consider RHIA, RHIT, CCS or CCA eligible provided certification is obtained within one year of hire.
